Wheat Intolerance: Laura Mercier’s Wheat Eye Base

According to the Laura Mercier website, this is an’ imperfection camouflage and eye base’.  Clearly the colour is not appropriate to camoflage the imperfections on my eyelids – wheat is described as light beige. Disappointingly none of the colours in the eye base range are appropriate for black women but I will save my rant about cosmetic companies not catering for black women for another time.  Of course people use different coloured bases on their eyes all the to intensify the colour of a shadow…and black women use white and light coloured eye bases  for make up looks where they deem it appropriate,  but this range of eye bases is not about colour intensification, it is about camouflaging imperfections on the lid area and none of the eight colours available come close to being near to the colour of my eyelid.

This product was part of Liberty’s Ultimate Beauty Gift and in fairness to the promotion this is the only colour product that is completely wrong for me –  not bad going considering all the products that I received.   It is applied with a cloth hoof applicator which deposits ALOT of colour.  more than you would need for both eyelids so I found it more useful to apply the base to the back of the hand and then apply to my eyes with my fingertips.  The texture is really smooth  I have been using this with my urban decay naked palette.  Generally I use  Mac’s Paint Pot in Groundwork as an eye base with this palette and I find that look will last all day (eight to ten hours) quite easily.

With this product, I found that my eyelids got greasy after about 6 hours so by the time I got home from work, my eyeshadow was hardly there.  The colour is too light and slightly chalky when used under the brows as a highlight and it does not work as an inner eye highlight either.  Overall, I ‘m disappointed; more because  Laura Mercier, a brand which  has foundation/concealer colours for deeper skin tones has failed to produce an eye base even close to my eyelid colour, then because it does not perform as well as other products that I have used.
