I have read and enjoyed many of Lee Childs novels including One Shot which this film is based on. I was sceptical about Tom Cruise portraying the 15 stone, six-foot five-inch Jack Reacher and my mum, who I went to see this film with summed it up as follows…
“…he did alot of killing… for a small man.”
If you have not read any Childs’ novels, this film works as a standalone action movie. If you have read the book, you will find that the film is quite different despite retaining the core themes. Cruise is believable as an action hero, but he does not have the physical presence of the character the Childs created`. Pike’s heaving bosom and wide-eyed stare are a bit irritating and look out for Robert Duvall
