I find nude/neutral colours on the lip slighty difficult. I have no shame in admitting that I am stuck in a bit of a rut when it comes to nudes. I just don’t find the mannequin lip convincing… on me. When I see younger women wearing it I think it looks great on them, but when I try it, I just can’t get my head around it, even if I have done a very heavy sixties inspired eye look. So for me, a nude lip look was always a clear gloss or balm….
…until I found this lip gloss. It is the perfect neutral for me. Clearly, it is part of the purple spectrum which of course is my signature colour, BUT somehow Laura Mercier have put some magic in this bottle. This colour just works with my make up and does not clash with anything. It has the ability to make your make up look finished without screaming ‘look at me’. The plum base gives it the opacity but it is the grey- mauve which is the perfect tone for my skin which makes it a marvellous colour on me, and other women that I have gifted this too. I love the opacity, but this is not a gloss trying to be a lipstick. It is a grown up gloss. There is a sheen but it is not super shiny and it is not at all sticky. I don’t find bits of food stuck onto my lips after eating as I have experienced with some glosses. The formulation is great – mineral oil free, with castor, grape seed, jojoba and safflower oil. I also love the hoof applicator. I just don’t get on with lip gloss brushes – the bristles end up splayed and application is messy. With a hoof, the colour applies evenly to the lips.
The packaging is simple and sophisticated and the lid is secure. This is not a statement colour but it is a brilliant colour, on its own or over lipstick. If you are looking to get into the habit of wearing colour before stepping out on the 14th with a statement lip, this would be a great choice.
I am much more of a lipstick rather then a lip gloss wearer, but I am not overstating it when I say that this … is my favourite lip gloss… ever.
Have you tried this colour? Are you a fan, or slightly obsessed like me?
