My search for a body lotion continues and I have recently finished my tube of A’kin Unscented Replenishing Body Moist.
I have a funny relationship with the word moist. It is great to type but I just don’t like the sound of it. Clearly it is better than ‘damp’ but to be frank, I don’t really know what a body moist is. Why A’kin did not add ‘uriser’ I don’t know. I don’t want my body to be moist after using a moisturiser. I want it to be moisturised.
A’kin is a paraben, ethoxylate, propylene glycol, mineral oil, silicones, pthalates, DEA, artificial colours and sodium laurel/laureth sulphate free range and it is not super expensive. Fabulous. It just goes to show what can be done with a mass market brand when the intention is there from inception. It is the first product from this Australian brand that I have tried and it may be the last as there isn’t a body product with a richer formula in their range. There are lots of lovely ingredients in this lotion including macademia seed, jojoba and avocado oil, organic Shea Butter and echium oil. Echium oil is a product that I had never heard of before but it is a plant based source of omega three, six and nine,
The moist has a fair amount of slip and leaves and initial sheen on the skin. The dry down is quite cool and to the touch the skin is quite moisturised… initially. After four to five hours though my skin goes back to being dehydrated. This product is unscented in the true sense of the word, ie, it smells of the ingredients in it rather than smell like clean laundry or air or anything else.
It is interesting to note that the directions state that it should be used any time the skin needs moisture. For me this is interesting because, handcreams are products that are reapplied not body creams. I need a body cream to provide at least eight hours of moisturisation. With a hand cream it is probably only on the skin for one to two hours. So, despite the great ingredients this body lotion did not pass the opaque tights test. After a full day at work, when I remove my tights, my skin is no longer moisturised. Clearly A’kin would suggest that reapply half way through the day but for me, a body lotion needs to stand the test of eight hours without reapplication and sadly this product did not. It is disappointing as I had such high hopes for this product. It is a shame as I like the ethos of the brand and the formula. I just wish it was richer.
