Crowning Glory: Phytospecific Rich Hydration Shampoo and Milk

Phytospecific Range

Phytospecific is the sister company to Phyto.  Both created by the Patric Ales, Phytospecific was created specifically for  textured hair be it natural, or permed.   It is an extensive range – not only are there shampoos and conditioners, there are also treatment oils, styling creams and relaxers in the range.  As a fan of the Phyto range (have a look at my reviews here and here) I was excited to see what the Phytospecific had to offer.

Phytospecific Range

Phytospecific focuses on botanicals which nourish textured hair but maintains the technological aspects of the Phyto range.  I love the fact that there is a premium range of products for textures hair and it is evident that the needs of textured hair have been researched with hydration and nutrition and products to deal with breakage at the heart of the range.

Rich Hydration Shampoo

Rich Hydration Shampoo

The shampoo has a pink pearlescent colour and is creamier then it appears. It was nice on the scalp, not tingling or stimulating but it did a gentle cleanse.  On the  length of my locs, it was not overly foaming – it rinsed out easily  and left my hair delicate fragranced. I would use this product as a frequent wash or after a clarifying shampoo. It has some lovely ingredients  including white clover honey (moisturising),  mallow (balancing) camelina and meadowfoam oils, (nourishing) and castor oil (shine and detangling).  This is a nice shampoo  but not amazing and I actually  prefer the shampoos from the Phyto range.

Rich Hydration Milk

Rich Hydration Milk

From the name of the product, I thought it was a hair lotion that I would use to keep my hair moisturised between shampoos, but actually it is the conditioner.  I  was expecting it to be a milk, ie runny , but with slightly damp hands, it was hard to push this cream out of the tube. I was very pleasantly surprised to find it was a rich cream.  It shares the same pink pearlescent colour as the shampoo the pleasant floral/sweet but undefinable fragrance and the same mix of botanicals.   I liked the texture of the conditioner, and was really able to work it into my locs and my roots.  This is not a leave in conditioner –  I used it directly after washing my hair and followed it with some hair loving oils .  It rinsed out easily and left my locs soft and fragranced.

I much preferred the conditioner to the shampoo … but overall despite having textured hair,  I prefer the Phyto range.
