Yesterday, I went to my first swishing event. Before you get concerned… swishing is basically swapping clothes shoes and accessories with like minded individuals. The event was run by gorgeous Nicole Pinkney a beauty therapist/guru who I met at a Keziah Connections event. When I met her I did not realise that she had a sideline is sustainable fashion guru – so when she invited me to come along to her event I immediately said yes!
The benefits of swishing are that those beloved quality items that, that are in really good condition but just don’t fit, and don’t fit the personality/style or size of any of your friends/family are given the opportunity to be picked up by a like minded person and you get the benefit of picking up so quality items to. So you shop without spending, and reduce your impact on the environment but saving resources. A great idea that has been endorsed by the likes of Twiggy.
So I set off with my six items.
Three dresses (including a never worn silk Aquascutum dress that was made for someone with a long rectangular body rather than my short curves) and an embellished Butler and Wilson wrap skirt.
Two pairs of shoes that were beautiful but hurt my feet.
The venue was beautiful – 1 Whitehall Place is round the corner from Embankment and attached to Horseguards Hotel. It is all dark wood panelling marble staircases, amazing chandeliers and hard wood floors – beautiful.
The event well organised with you depositing your items to swish and then going into the main hall to have treatments/listen to some seminars before the swishing started.
Group life coaching with Natalie
Upscaled/recycled jewellery from Lumoi
Gorgeous Liane from L Does Nails was there
Bath and Body products from Ella Pure
Pampering treats and coconut oil from Time for Me
Then it was swishing time. My Aquascutum dress was snapped up in minutes but sadly all the other swishers were smaller in size than me so I did not pick anything up… but it felt good knowing that my much loved but too small items are going to a good home.
The next Swap in The City UK event will be held in November – keep checking the website www.swapinthecityuk.co.uk for details.
