The Santigolden Age: Smashbox and Santigold Eye Shadow Collage

Santigold for Smashbox

It has been a while since I have been so excited by a ‘celebrity’ make up collaboration but the Smashbox and Santigold partnership is very very exciting.  Firstly because Santigold has not bombarded our TV’s and gossip magazines so she feels relatively fresh and new.  Secondly because the colours are all kinds of gorgeous.

Thirdly, because it feels like a real collaboration.   Santigold has made her mark on the packaging and the colours.   Santigold is a musician who is probably best known in the UK as the person behind the music for the Direct Line and Honda advertisements.  Click here if you want to see the video  If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen her collection as I posted pictures last week.

There has been much hullabaloo about the ring with the lip gloss in it.  As someone that wears a statement ring every single day, and having seen it in the flesh it is GORGEOUS and worth the hype… but… my favourite part of the collection is definitely the eyeshadows or eye collages as they are known.  There are two palettes.  This palette is called Earth as We Know It.  I got to play with it at the press day and fell in love with it.  The raisin (purple)  with rose gold speckle was the standout shade for me.

However, for the past few days I have been playing with the Apocalypse Now palette.  Bright teal, and a bright orange with a golden undertone, matte black in the middle and the two shimmery shades are pewter and oyster.

The packaging is gorgeous and the first inkling that Santigold has really inputted into the collaboration.  The artwork on the front is Santigold’s artwork.  Bright and graphic it is Santigold’s interpretation of a Golden Age where earth, stars humans and aliens exist harmoniously.  The reptile skin embossing in the palette is fab. The compact is two tone with yellow lid and a gold bottom with a good sized mirror that you could actually do your eye make up in.

Flip the compact over and there is a QR code on the back which when you scan it takes you to a Smashbox Tutorial on how to use the products.

The eyeshadows are the Smashbox wet/dry formula which means they are beautifully soft and buttery and very very pigmented.  When you apply them when wet, the colour intensifies and I would really recommend wet application for the pewter and oyster shades as it reduces fall out.   I love this palette. The colours are as subtle or full on as you want them to be.  I have posted some different looks on Instagram if you would like to see how this looks on the skin and in the swatch below I have shown them both dry and wet.
