The beauty industry tells me that as I am forty plus I need anti ageing products. Fine, whatever, but don’t give me a wrinkle cream as I don’t need it. What I want is a firming cream.
As I am prone to the occasional break out I don want a cream that has too many actives in it as it makes my skin break out. So, it is with great pleasure that I would like to introduce Algenist Firming and Lifting Cream It is a twice a day cream which I like as it means that I can change my facial oils and serums in response to the day to day needs of my skin.
You can tell this is a cosmeceutical range by the smell. When you put your nose in the post it does smell slightly acrid, but you don’t notice when you put it on your face. The texture is quite rich and when you apply it almost has a melting sensation on the skin. It absorbs quickly and is a great base for make up as it is so matte. If you layer SPF over your skincare it wont roll over this formula either. This cream does not stretch the skin on your face back towards your ears, but there is a firming sensation which I noticed as my pores appeared less visible..
This moisturisers has got silicones, a highly refined petroleum derivative but it also have avocado, olive and sweet almond oils as well as peptides. So, i am trying to avoid petroleum but this moisturiser which i like has it in it. I have not stopped using it but I would not purchase another one for that reason. I know that petroleum derivatives are cheap but I’ve said it before, if you have sweet almond, avocado and olive oils in a product do you really need to add a petroleum derivative? what benefit does it add??
Algenist’s USP is alguronic acid which is derived from one celled algae. These organisms produce alguronic acid which has been scientifically (in a test tube, not on people) proven to increase firmness and reduce appearance of wrinkles and reduce the product of age spots. According to Algenist’s website, anything that hyalurnoic acid can do… alguronic acid can do better! Alguronic acid is not present in human skin (unlike hyaluronic acid which is present throughout the body). Alguronic Acid has been found to decrease enzymes which inhibit hyaluronic acid so a beauty regime that incorporates both should be beneficial to the skin. That is why the toner has been added to my wish list.
