Elemis vs REN: Battle of the Hot Cloth Cleansers

Elemis Pro Radiance Cleanser & REN Hot Cloth Cleanser

My preferred way to cleanse my face is with a cleansing oil or balm.  We know this but there are other cleansers on the market and I’m a beauty junkie so I like to buy product.  Liz Earle’s Cleanse and Polish is an iconic product and has won over one hundred awards.  Iconic, buuuut, it is not my favourite cleanser.  In the nineteen years since it came to market there have been many imitators… I mean  iterations of similar products and I’ve decided to try two from my favourite brands – Elemis Pro Radiance Cleanser and Ren Hot Cloth Cleanser.  Keep reading if you want to find out who won the smackdown.

Elemis Pro Radiance Cleanser & REN Hot Cloth Cleanser

Size – Both are 150 ml (Elemis 1 – REN 1)

Pump – The REN pump is not as easy to depress as the Elemis pump.  In additional it does not provide in one pump enough product to  do my  whole plate sized face  ((Elemis 2 – REN 1)

Expiry Date – Elemis lasts for six months and REN is nine which is better for me as I generally have more than one cleanser on the go at any one time. (Elemis 2 – REN 2)

Smell – Elemis blends lavender, sweet orange, ylang ylang and patchouli.  The result is a very delicate blend that is not strongly one note.  REN – Rose Centifolia. I am not a fan of rose scented products, another win for Elemis. (Elemis 3 – REN 2)

Texture – The texture is very similar the REN is very slightly looser but only slightly.  My preference is for the Elemis which is richer as well as thicker.  (Elemis 4 – REN 2)

Elemis Pro Radiance Cleanser andREN Hot Cloth Cleanser Swatch

Effect on the skin – Both provide enough slip to have five minutes plus of massage and both can remove eye make up if that is what you want to do BUT my skin definitely preferred the Elemis.  I always felt like I needed to use a wash off cleanser after the REN whereas I could do a double cleanse with the Elemis and go straight in with my toner stage products. (Elemis 5 – REN 2)

Ingredients – Both products are sodium lauryl sulphate, paraben, mineral oil and synthetic colour free.  The Elemis cleanser is made with shea butter and beeswax and the REN has a cocoa butter and beeswax.  Pro Radiance also has Moringa peptides which is a fab ingredient that REN does not have My skin prefers shea to cocoa butter so Elemis just nudges it. (Elemis 6 – REN 2)

Price – Elemis is £29 and REN is £16 – a clear win for REN (Elemis 6 – REN 3)

Winner – Elemis!  That ‘s not to say that REN is not a good cleanser – but for me, despite the difference in price, I much prefer the Pro Radiance Cleanser.
