Australian Body Care: Skin Wash

ABC Skin Wash

I love London, it is the city I was born in and the centre of the universe.  Fact.  However, it is a city that functions best at temperatures between twenty and twenty five degrees.  When the thermometer hits twenty six degrees or more the infrastructure starts to fail us and when temperatures hit thirty degrees mega burst of humidity, as they have recently, the hustle and bustle just makes you… well … sweaty.

The Australian Body Care (ABC) Skin Wash has been on my radar for many years – a QVC perennial and recent addition to my bathroom.  I have been loving it in these thirty degree plus temperatures.  ABC is a range that was originally used in salons but has become a retail product due in part to its popularity on QVC.  The key ingredient is the melaleuca alternifolia or Tea Tree Oil.  There are over two hundred species of melaleuca shrubs in Australia but melaleuca alternifolia is the species which is commercially known as  Tea Tree and has the wide range of skincare and health benefits which include being:-

  • anti inflammatory,
  • anti bacterial,
  • anti microbial and
  • anti viral

This is not the most skin loving product in my bathroom, it is a sodium lauryl sulphate based skin wash and has parabens.  It is also not the most delicious smelling shower gel.  The Melaleuca Anternifolia (tea tree) smell cannot be described as pretty.  That said I do not find it unpleasant or overpowering and within thirty seconds the fragrance dies down to almost nothing n the skin so it does not interfere with any fragrance that you may with to use afterwards.  I have been using it for my evening shower because it is so refreshing after a sticky day in the metropolis  it leaves you feeling clean without stripped.  It is quite a thin gel, which does lather, but it is not a super foaming formula  In fairness it is not as drying on the skin as I had expected considering the ingredients but I  immediately follow it with a body oil.  For me, this is not an all year round product, but for sticky London summers – it is perfect!
