From Furs to Fragrance: Dennis Basso

Dennis Basso Fragrance

This fragrance has not been in my possession for a long time but I have worn it every day since I received it. Last week I attended the SAS and Company Press day where a variety of celebrity fragrances were showcased have a look at my Instagram page here for more details, however my absolute favourite from the edit was the Dennis Basso fragrance.  It was released last year with much success in Harrods (£65 for 75ml) A summer version has now been released, but it is the original that I am loving and reviewing today.

Dennis Basso Fragrance

Before the fragrance release, I knew of Dennis Basso from QVCUK.  He is a New York gent with a deliciously gravelly voice who has an outerwear range that includes faux furs.  In the states he is probably better known for his (real) furs which many of his celebrity clients wear although he has had faux fur in his range since 2007.  Anwyay – back to the fragrance.  The full size seventy five millilitres of the  eau de parfum is housed in a round bottle with a cap, but I received the roller ball, which I love for popping into my make up bag.  My fragrance lives inside an animal print cosy which is a nod to Dennis’ faux fur designs.  The fragrance itself is gorgeous.  A blend of everything that I love in a fragrance which means that it is great for day to night.

It has a citrussy top but it is not zesty (lemon, apple and bergamot) – this does not smell like cologne, but it is fresh which is great in this heat.  I find that the top does not linger on my skin and before you know it we are in the heart of the fragrance.  Tuberose, and orange blossom which I love but also jasmine which is not my favourite white floral  but it does not overpower the fragrance or give any headiness.  After about three hours we get into the base of the fragrance with the creamy musk coming into its own at which point, I reapply, because I am greedy. (I don’t know what cashmere wood is to be honest, but it does not harm the fragrance at all.)

Dennis Basso Fragrance

This is an intimate fragrance.  The mister has to nuzzle my neck (always a bonus)  to get a proper whiff.  It does not enter the room before I do and I am very heavy handed when applying fragrance.  There is something for everyone whether your nose is new to fragrance or very refined. I also think that there is a sophistication to this fragrance.  I don’t think the teen girls in my life would wear this as it is not a sweet fragrance, although they thought when I wafted my wrist in front of them.

Dennis Basso Fragrance

This fragrance does not have the longest wear on me – I am not sure whether that is specifically my body chemistry, the current heat that we are experiencing in London or a mixture of both but with the rollerball reapplication is easy.
