Illuminating Fragrance: NARS Jaipur Candle

NARS Jaipur Candle

NARS Jaipur Candle

NARS do candles – yes really.  Although I know that  NARS do skincare, I don’t think of them for fragrance so it was a surprise for me to discover that they did candles.  I had to try one to see whether the quality and innovation in their cosmetics line extends to their candles.

NARS Jaipur Candle

There are four candles in the NARS candle family.  Two of them are housed in in a burgundy-red box and candle holder –  I purchased Jaipur recently and lit it as soon as I got it home.  The fragrance permeates through the box which has the same colour and branding as the glass holder.  The wax is coloured to be the same colour as the packaging and it makes a lovely change from the monochomatic simplicity of many candles.

The throw of this fragrance is one of the best I have experienced – within  minutes my small living room is filled wit h the fragrance.  I have never been to India so I don’t know what the city Jaipur actually smells like but I have to be honest – I dont imagine it smells like this candle.  The first note that hits you is sweet. Not a sickly sweet or even a plum sweetness.  In the Jaipur candle the sweetness comes from pomegranate blended with citrus notes.  The floral element is rose geranium and jasmine so it does have the potential to be heady but the citrus notes cut it.  The vanilla and musk base adds to the overall warm sweetness of the fragrance.  It is a unisex fragrance – the mister did not find it to be to floral or sweet.  It is not a smell that I would want to wear as a fragrance personally  but it is perfect to scent a room where you want the scent to be prevalent rather then fading into the background.  It is not too stimulating as a fragrance so it works  during the day if you are working from home as well as in the evening.  This is beautiful candle and I will definitely be revisiting my local NARS counter to sniff the other fragrances.
