If you follow me on my blog you will know that just over a year ago, I purchased an SLR and I LOVE IT. It has taken my pictures to a new level in my opinion but truth be told – I was using it in auto mode. What I needed was an interactive way to learn how to take great pictures and finally understand the holy trinity of photography – ISO, shutter speed and aperture. Culture Club Photography Workshops is a band of pro photographers who teach camera novices like myself how to use our cameras properly. I spent a very insightful four hours in the company of workshop leader and camera guru Matilda and two other camera novices where we learnt skills and techniques from white balance to framing to improve our snapping. Buttons that I had never previously used on my camera (yes really) are now my friends and I am very proud to announce that I no longer shoot in auto mode!!!! Culture Club run a variety of workshops using London as a backdrop and it really was great to see the quality of your images improving during the course of the workshop. If you have an SLR or a planning to buy one get yourself to one of their workshops.
I took a few pics…
Learning exposure and shutter speed… while Matilda does her best impersonation of Jumpin’ Jack Flash (… it’s a gas gas gas)
My attempt at panning…for cool images not gold!
We spent some time in the food market at the South Bank drooling… and putting the techniques we had learnt into practise
Then we had a chance to pretend we were real photographers and take some arty interesting shots!
