Poppy King is a powerhouse in the beauty industry that I really admire.  She is a woman who knows what she likes, what she is good at and sticks to that.  Lipstick.  I have read her book, (Lessons of a Lipstick Queen) and was really impressed by her resilience and her honesty.  I was really excited when I saw the buzz about the Silver Screen Lipsticks on Instagram last year and knew that Stella had to me mine from the moment that I saw it.

The packaging is fitting for a silver screen goddess.  The box is a flocked grey with Lipstick Queen in bold silver print.  Stella comes in a heavy silver metallic case which has a magnetic closure (swoon) and rates very highly in terms of lipstick factor.  The bullet does not have an unpleasant of confectionery smell in fact it smells minty thanks to the peppermint oil added to the formula. This minty lippie however does not stab or sting my lips at all which is a really blessing for me as I really cant bear those lip products which the minty sting.  The Lipstick Queen logo is embossed on the side of the bullet, not the top of it so you don’t loose it with your first swipe (Tom Ford take note please). The finish is quite quite glossy, but at the same time pigmented. Lipstick Queen describe the texture as ‘wet look’ but I don’t agree.  It is not a wet looking as a shiny or ‘vinyl’ gloss on me more of a moisturising lippie finish.  It is very very comfortable on the lips thanks to the pomegranate sterols which help to prevent moisture loss and are much more skin friendly then mineral oil which many other companies use in their products. Stella has average wear time and leaves the lips slightly stained.

This is a wearable bright purple on the blue side of the spectrum.  It does not have a glittery look on the lips but it does have turquoise micro shimmer running through it which is a beautiful.  I like my lippie to have opaque coverage.  My lips are two different colours and I like my lipsticks to provide enough colour to be the same shade on both lips.  Sadly Stella isn’t quite opaque enough to do that.  It is of course nothing that a lip pencil or a touch of matte lippie cant resolve… but… Stella is a thirty five pound lipstick.  I have no absolutely no problem paying thirty five pounds for a lippie. Especially when it is purple. Especially when it comes in that glorious heavy metallic case…but.. I wanted the colour to WOW me as much as the packaging does and the truth is… it doesn’t.  Dont get me wrong, this is a very good lipstick, but not an amazing one.
