Happy National Fragrance Day!! Shay and Blue are one of the concessions that I always spend some time at when I visit a large M&S or John Lewis. This new-ish British perfume house have a perfectly curated edit of fragrances for him, her and the home.
It is funny how your associate certain words and phrases with certain brands. Shay and Blue describe Atropa Belladonna as a ‘fruity floral’. This phrase makes me think of the cherry blossom fragrance from L’Occitane which it’s prettiness, lightness and femininity. Atropa Belladona is not that kind of fruity floral.
The blackcurrant note at the top sharp, which takes the heady out of the jasmine and strengthens the narcissus. At the bottom you have patchouli and bourbon vanilla. The fragrance is not part of the pretty fruitly floral family. It is more interesting than that.
The Mister loves this fragrance…. on himself. Body chemistry is such an important part of perfume. On him it smells rather sexy, the floral note is minimised and the sharp blackcurrant is heightened. On me it is floral that pushes against the fruitiness of the black current. I have to say that this is a fragrance that is aimed at women but smells better on him than me… so it is currently in the middle of our joint perfume collection. I have no doubt that it will end up on his side though.
The packaging is very unisex and the fragrance does not appear girly (apart from the bow which is removable ) which is a good thing.
Atropa Belladonna retails for £55.00 and can be found on the Shay and Blue website, at John Lewis and Marks and Spencer.
