Brand Alert: NUVA – Flavoured Water

Nuva Spring Water

How is your water intake?  Be honest – do you drink as much as you should?  Are you managing three sips or three litres a day? As someone who loves beauty I know that I should drink more… but I dont.  I am the kind of person that can have a small bottle of water in my bag for two  weeks without finishing it.  Disgraceful I know.  I generally drink plain water rather than flavoured water as the taste of synthetic fruit and synthetic sugar does not appeal to me.

Nuva Spring Water

NUVA (which is an abbreviation of Nutritional Value) is a new range of spring water with natural flavours.  Sounds like no big deal but take a look in your local sweet shop and you will see that there aren’t natural flavours without sugars and sweeteners.  (One of the co founders of the brand used to be director of marketing for Evian so they clearly know their market.)   NUVA currently have three flavours available. If you think that fruit teas are just flavoured hot waters and a bit of a waste of time, this is probably not a product for you.  As with fruit infusions, the smell of the product is as integral to the overall experience at the taste.

The three flavours currently available.  Melon and Jasmine which was my least favourite of the three.  I didn’t get any jasmine fragrance or taste and the melon was not to my liking. I had highest hopes for Cucumber and Mint.  For me, the mint element should have been stronger.  The mint over overwhelmed by the cucumber but overall it was more palatable than the Melon and Jasmine.  The third flavour, and my favourite was Ginger and Lemon. The flavour was very subtle but I was able to identify both elements in this drink and the fragrance was not overwhelming.  The flavours worked equally well chilled and room temperature.

NUVA is sold in five hundred millilitre bottles which is larger than most individual sized bottles, however at £1.49 a bottle it is two to three times the price the same quantity of plain water and flavoured water.  The value associated with this is really dependent on your lifestyle.  If you are a super healthy person you might argue that plain water is the best option for you and the economic  argue support plain water too.  If however the only way you can get water down your neck is if it is flavoured than this is a better option for you then a flavoured water with sweeteners.

Personally, I have mixed feelings about this product.  I think it is a little pricey, however, having tasted them, I think that there are probably some occasions when I am out and about that I would prefer NUVA to plain water, in the same way that I sometimes drink a herbal or fruit tea over a cup of builders tea.

NUVA is available from Boots, Wholefoods and selected independent retailers.
