The matt lipstick trend is not going anywhere. If there was a lipstick scale with matt lip textures like MAC Ruby Woo scoring a one and lip glosses scoring a ten, the GOSH Matt Velvet Touch Lipsticks are at a five.
They are sophisticated range of matte lipsticks to the market and they are good. I say sophisticated because they are following trend for a matte lipstick that does not drying your lips to within an inch of their lives.
They have a sheerness which means that you can build up the colour or blot them with a finger to get a ‘stain’ look. I feel like the sheerness is what puts this back in the drug store rather The lack of opacity is a good and a bad thing depending on the look that you are going for.
On the lighter shades the lack of opacity makes them much more forgiving, on the deeper shades, for me this is a bit disappointing as I like my matte shades to be opaque. For the nude shades, you will get that slight corpse, recreating the sixties look but you can add a gloss to them…which defeats the purpose for makes them very much more wearable. My preferred (only) nude lipgloss is Tantalise from Fashion Fair which changes the colour completely (#justsaying) but it does look really pretty. They have a slight not quite candy scent in the bullet but not on the lips. I don’t find them to be drying at all. The non nude shades do stain the lips (a plus for me)
The GOSH Matt Velvet Touch Lipsticks are a great buy at £6.99 they wont break the bank or kill your lips but you may want to line your lips to get maximum opacity
1 – Baby Lips. On me this is more like dead lips. I could make it work, but would need lip liner, and gloss. It applies onto my lips very streaky and highlights all the imperfections in my lips.
2 – Rose. This shade is not for me either ( (I had hoped it would be) I could make it work with liner. It has a pink undertone and is also very streaky application
3 -Antique. The brown girl nude! It is still quite light but it has a caramel undertone. Application is less streaky but I still prefer to blot this and build up the colour
4 – Coral. Coral lipsticks are very hit and miss with me. This is a definite miss.
5 – Classic Red. You can see how sheer it is. The different tones in my lips are showing through but with a lip liner this would be great. A lovely colour
6 – Raspberry. I love this one – no liner necessary
7 – Cherry. I prefer this one to the classic red. Beautiful on deep skintones
8 – Plum. My favourite of course beautiful deep berry tone (on me)
