It’s confession time. Encre Noire Sport (Black Ink Sport) from Lalique is the one fragrance that the Mr owns that I spray on myself both regularly and liberally. I LOVE this one. It is possible that I wear it more than he does (shhhhhh).
When you look at the box, you understand the sport element. It looks like an deodorant box in my opinion. The grey with black accent remind me of sports toiletries that the Mr takes to the gym. Go inside the box however and it is a whole different story. Chic, contemporary and all black. From the wooden lid with Lalique gently embossed on the top to the bottle and it’s contents – it is something that I would be product to have on my side of the dressing table. I do not think that this fragrance should be ‘sport’ associated with it at all. This is not a fresh just left the gym fragrance. This is not a bold, I run the company fragrance and in my opinion this is not a ‘man fragrance’ This is definitely unisex.
On the Mr, the citrus burst comes through strongly from the first spray. On me however, it is a green woodiness that I get first which is both unusual for me and delicious. It is lush and verdant in a northern hemisphere, Canadian rather than Norwegian sense. Not pine and eucalyptus, not camphor but fresh green
This is also a subtle scent. You have to get close, which is my favourite kind of scent. The nutmeg gives it warmth without you smelling like food. The cypress and grapefruit in the top is a beautiful combination. This fragrance gives me a good 5-6 hours of fresh warmth.
If I had unlimited funds, I would live in a Grand Designs house, which Scandinavian influenced interiors and I would spend my weekends reading hard back books, on a corner module sofa, with a sea view under a cashmere blanket wearing modal yoga pants and top drinking a full bodied Syrah wearing Encre Noire Sport. Back in the real world, I am sitting on a seen-better-days sofa under a lambs wool blanket drinking a cup of tea, working out how I can get this beautiful fragrance onto my side of the fragrance drawer.
Lalique Encre Noire is available from QVC and other authorised stockists and retails for £38 for 50ml
