Illuminating Fragrance: True Grace Orangery

True Grace Orangery

True Grace Orangery

I wanted to call this post, ‘the candle that got me through the winter’.  True Grace Orangery has been burning in my front room for about six weeks  with no other candles on rotation which is unusual for me.  True Grace is a British candle brand, based in Wiltshire, and founded by husband and wife team Roger and Phillipa Biles whose complimentary business and nose skills set have seen the brand for over two decades.   I spend a fair bit of time in the candle departments of both Liberty and John Lewis so this brand has been on my radar for some time but this is my first purchase.

After spending a bit of time at my local candle shop recently I discovered Orangery.  It is the most beautiful subtle but delicious, floral orange blend. It was the fragrance rather than the brand that secured the purchase – the more I smelt it, the more I loved it.  Orange and  pettigrain are scents I am always drawn to but mixed with geranium rose and a touch amber in the bottom give it a floral element that is not heady or super feminine.  It is very much an orange scent, but it is not zesty and citrusy, pefect for creating a calming atmosphere.

True Grace Orangery is part of the ‘Manor’ range which is influenced by the specifically English aesthetic of the country house and garden.  The glass bowl is hand blown and the wax , which is very soft, is a blend which include coconut oil and a secret ingredient.  As you would expect from a four wick candle the throw of this fragrance is excellent and there is also longevity to the following day.  The burn is clean with no smoking or sootiness but as the candle burns there is a wax residue left on the bowl.

This is a gorgeous candle. The is the medium sized bowl which has a sixty hour burn time which seems pretty low for a candle of this size (the diameter of the candle is nineteen centimetres) but if you burn it correctly, you will definitely get more time than that.  The candle is beautifully packaged and sustainably sourced – it would make a beutiful gift either for yourself or for someone who appreciates fine quality candles.
