Miller Harris: Rose Silence

Miller Harris Rose Silence

Miller Harris Rose Silence

What am I doing with a bottle of Miller Harris Rose Silent and why am I reviewing it? I don’t like rose fragrances.  I don’t.  Give me citrus or white floral or musk or a gourmand fruit or spice or even vanilla but rose? Yuck!  My sister on the other hand lurves rose.  Over the years that I have had my blog a few rose scented products have fallen through the cracks, but generally, it is not my bag.   This is a gift for my sister.  I love buying gifts especially for family members as I know pretty well what they do and don’t like.  For my sister, I did my usual. I went to the Miller Harris store, and looked at floral fragrances.  If I didn’t like it,  there is a good possibility that she would love it.   I love my sister, I want to be close to her physically… but the truth is, I don’t want her to smell like… well roses.

If I didn’t love my sister, I would have bought her Rose En Noir which is sexy spicy rose.  A bold rose compared to Rose Silence in my opinion.  Rose Silence has  notes of mandarin orange, blackcurrant, rose, musk and patchouli.   Ahhhh, I hear you say, you like it because it has mandarin orange in it!  Well, yes, I am a citrus fan but this is not a juicy mandarin scent.  There is a crisp green element to the fragrance and there is a touch tart, sweetness from the blackcurrant but the rose is there from the beginning, not in your face but present.  For me, this fragrance is not like walking through a rose garden, more like walking past someone on a crowded street who is carrying a bouquet of flowers that has roses in it.  You don’t realise till you have walked past them that you have smelt something lovely.  The longer you wear it, the more the rose comes through and after four to five hours (on my skin) the rose is Rose Silence is very much the dominant note.

There is something very gentle about this fragrance. You don’t need to douse yourself in it – that is not the point. It is very much a style over fashion, feminine rather than girly. Me being me, I would layer this with Citron Citron or if I am feeling adventurous (because Oud is not really my thing either)  la Fumee Alexandree but for my sister, Rose Silence with it’s quiet strength is enough on it’s own.
