The Body Shop have really upped their game recently. Their packaging, products and marketing campaigns are much more slick recently and Body Shop Skin Defence is definitely part of their new wave of products.
Do I need to explain that women of colour need to protect their skin from sun exposure too? No? Good. Not sure if I have mentioned it before but my sister (a woman of colour) is photosensitive. Yes it is possible. I am always on the look out for a good product for me, but also for her. One that does not leave a blue/white/ghostly wash of colour on the skin, that does not leave you looking like a grease ball and isn’t comedogenic. Skin Defence is a broad spectrum product whith the highest levels of protection for UVA (denoted by SPF50) and UVB (denoted by PA+++++).
I played with Skin Defence three times before I purchased it. This involved going into store on three consecutive days. Each day I applied a generous amount to different parts of my body and seeing how it fared during the day. It is very light but most importantly, it really is invisible on the skin. Huzzah! So I bought it…and have been wearing it and loving it. No sticky texture, no dodgy smell nothing unpleasant. You apply it over foundation and under makeup. This is not a one a day application so this is not one to wear when you are spending the day on the beach. It’s perfect for commuting, as I tend to leave late in the day provides the perfect amount of coverage.
If I am having a no make up day I can reapply it later in the day. It does not roll whatever skincare products I have used underneath it. I’ve passed it to my sister and so far so good – no skin irritation! If you are looking for a light SPF to wear daily that really is invisible on the face, Skin Defence is a good one.
