This week I experienced a minor disappointment. Like I say it was minor but it was also the perfect excuse to cheer myself up with something beauty related. I gave myself a ten pound budget and headed to TK Maxx excited about what I would pick up. I was expecting my present to myself to be a nail varnish or a soap or a super sized body wash. To my surprise whist I was glancing through the fragrances I found Truth or Dare by Madonna for only £6.99.
Celebrity fragrances are not a significant part of my perfume collection. In addition, I am not a huge Madonna fan. She was in almost every issue of Smash Hits when I was growing up. Yes, I do know the words to most of her songs but that is besides the point. Madonna’s fragrance is what we are talking about here. Truth or Dare dates back to 2012 and was released at the same time as her Truth or Dare album (which I don’t own).
The reason that this fragrance has been on my radar is because it is Tuberose heavy. I am a fan of white flowers fragrances. Tuberose, like jasmine is a fragrance that I love but only when done properly. By that I mean, I don’t want a headache inducing overdose of it. As much as it is intoxicating and heady and powerful, I want it to stay fresh and pretty.
Interestingly Truth or Dare is a great tuberose led white floral scent. All the heavy hitters are in there – gardenia, neroli and jasmine. I have learned that it is best to spray it on myself rather than my clothes as it is quite heady, On the skin, however, it starts of intoxicating and slightly sweet with a hint of the heat of the tropics. It develops a lightness and a muskiness on the skin that is just beautiful.
For me, this is a sexy confident fragrance. The packaging is a little incongruent with Madonna – again quite classic. A golden orb lid and a white bottle embellished with microspheres. When I think about Madonna this is not at all what I think she smells like. A strong white flower fragrance is quite traditional and I associate her with shocking antics but Truth or Dare is a gem. Regardless of whether you like Madonna it is worth a sniff. At seven pounds for a bottle it is a brilliant bargain.
