The Problem With Universality As Demonstrated By It Cosmetics Brow Power

It Cosmetics Brow Power

My second It Cosmetics product via the #luckybag2017 is Brow Power.  A two ended product with a fine nib brow pencil at one end and a short spoolie at the other.  There are several on the market at a range of prices.  I have lots of products of this type in my collection from Tom Ford to Maybelline. The popularity of this format of product has be to given to brow queen Anastasia Beverly Hills.  The difference between the other products of this type that I have is that it comes in one shade. That’s why IT cosmetics call their product a Universal Brow Pencil.

I have mixed feelings about this product.  The spoolie is not as good as others in my collection, but with a bit of time I can make it work.  The nib is quite narrow so you can get thin strokes on the skin.  The texture is not too hard and not to soft so you can build up the brow look.  You can feel the ‘but’ coming right…

Application

It Cosmetics will tell you that this product covers all brow shades.  They explain that the more pressure you apply the deeper the shade will be on the brows.   Go to QVCUK and you will see this demonstrated on the back of the hand.  All fine and good in theory but it is a different story when you come to apply it on your face.

I don’t know about you but I don’t have a lot of fat under my brows.  It is also not a part of my body that undergoes a lot of exposure to pressure or pain.  What I mean is that the back of my hand can withstand far more that my brows.  I have very very dark brows, with the exception of a couple of pesky greys.  Having a darker brown means that a whole heap of pressure needs to be applied to make Brow Power match my brows.  The result is discomfort – something that I don’t choose to experience in my makeup routine.

The Problem

The problem with a ‘universal’ brow product is that it does not take account of skin tone, the undertone of your skin tone, your brow hair colour or the undertone of your brow hair.  It is the reason why a brow product that is the right shade and undertone for Holly Willoughby, is unlikely to be the appropriate colour for me.  If you have a taupe to medium brow colour and your brows are not too thick, you may like this product.  If you have a darker brow my suggestion would be to buy a product that comes in a deeper tone.

On the Upside

The brow wax is infused with biotin and saw palmetto.  Both are actives that you can buy as supplements to support hair growth.  I doubt a topical application in the concentration that they are in will do anything much for your brows though.  This best thing about Brow Power is that It Cosmetics will donate one to Look Good Feel Better to for every one that is sold.  Now that is a great reason to buy it regardless of your brow colour.
