Ambre Solaire: Sensitive Advanced Protecting and Hydrating Face Mist.

Garnier Ambre Solaire Sensitive Advanced Protecting and Hydrating Face Mist

For the purpose of brevity, this product will be referred to as the Advanced Protecting Mist.  The full name of this product is Garnier Ambre Solaire Sensitive Advanced Protecting and Hydrating Face Mist.  A real mouthful and it does not tell you the best bit about this product.  It’s SPF50. High protection sun factors fill me with equal portions of dread and happiness.  I know that sun protection is a must for skin protection all year round. I am not averse slathering SPF30 and above all over my face and body.  High sun protection factors fill me with dread however as they can leave a white cast on the skin. Advances in technology mean that brands are coming forward with improved  formulations all the time.  However,  it is still a first thought for me when I see SPF 50 because you just never know what it is going to look like on the skin until you try it.

The Concept

The Ambre Soliare team have created an SPF from a very female perspective but which will work for everyone.  The unexpected burst of sun at lunch time or when you are out and about is what catches you out. On a beach holiday you know you are going to need SPF so you prepare for it. Ambre Solaire carried out some research on sun protection and found that women in cities don’t apply or reapply their foundation for a variety of reasons including the fact that SPF is often sticky and heavy and messes up their makeup!  Is that you?

The team explained that they took influence from Korean skincare when creating this product  The Advanced Protecting Mist provides protection from UVA nd UVB rays, In addition the spray is full of skin hydrators, including vitamin E, gycerin and hyaluronic acid.In theory it sounds great, but what is the reality?

On the Skin,

This product is very light and does not leave a white cast on the skin if you hold the can a good 6 – 8 inches away from the skin.  It does not affect the makeup that you have applied and if you want to touch up your makeup after application you will find that powders apply easily and evenly.  Depending on how hot a day it is when applied, you may find that you get a touch oilier than usual.  In this case I would suggest blotting with paper rather than touching up with powder to reduce the number of layers applied to the skin.

Something to Consider

The Advanced Protecting Mist has a light floral fragrance yet it is defined as being for sensitive skin.  I find this to be confusing since with aerosols, you have small particles of the product that will inevitably go up the nose and down the throat.  If you are asthmatic or have breathing difficulties due to hayfever or pollution, I would not recommend this product as the aerosol in combination with the fragrance particles might irritate your lungs.

Overall, I like this product.  A handbag sized SPF50 spray that you can use to top up your sun production is a good thing.  It is under a tenner and available at Boots so it is affordable and easily accessible.  However, you need to apply this product regularly so you need to to continue with your heavy hitting SPF that goes under your makeup.  It is also not suitable for a beach holiday in my opinion but it is definitely useful to have.
