The Becca One Perfecting brush has been on my wishlist for a couple of years. I don’t know what it took me so long to get hold of it. There have been a couple of limited edition ilterations that I was looking including a rose gold which would have been pretty but I was too slow with my order and so it came and went.
What is it?
Becca’s One Perfecting Brush is a one job does nearly all brush. The idea is that you can apply powder, cream and liquid products with the one brush. Marketed as appropriate for face and cheek products, it would be a push to use it for the lips and or the eyes.
Washing the One Perfecting Brush
When you wash it straight away it cleans up quite well. A solid brush soap or hand soap works as you can run the brush along the length of the soap. It won’t fit into the Style Pro brush cleaner. You need to make sure you clean both sides of the brush as the foundation goes towards the bristles so clean both sides as well as the top of the brush. There are alot of bristles but it is quite a fluffly brush for it’s size. The bristles are synthetic and I lost a few when I first got it and a few more after the first couple of washes. Since then it has settled down and I have not lost any bristles since.
Generally it is not recommended to shape the brush before you put it to dry but in this case it is helpful if you do prior to putting it on it’s side so that it keeps it’s shape when it dries. I find that when you don’t do this, the shape of the brush head splays more and it is harder to put it back into palce. You can press a clean flannel on both sides to get rid of the excess water.
With Base Products
- Tom Ford Stick Foundation – The One Perfecting Brush is not as dense as a buffing brush so I had to work harder to blend it inot the skin. With a bit of patience, you get a lovely finish but it takes time. I did find that a bashed myself with the ferrule-handle a couple of times as the brisltes are not as stiff as other brushes so it takes a bit of getting used to. Personally I dont think that it is great for cream products.
- MUFE Liquid Foundation – This brush is great with liquids, whether you want a sheer layer or prefer to build it up the soft bristles mean you can stipple or buff and will get an even finish.
- YSL Touche Eclat Powder – You can use the corners to pick up a fair bit of product so if you want to do baking with this brush you can. If you want a fine layer of powder to set your makeup it is better to use the centre of the brush and buff.
With Cheek Products
- Tom Ford Savage Cheek Colour– it picked up qquite a lot of product and I though that I had picked up too much on the brush but because I had been using the corner for foundation I was just able to go over the heavy handed appkciation with the foundation end and it toned it down beautifully.
- Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Rose Gold – The brush left a beautiful light but buildable effect on the skin. However, if you are going to use matte and shimmer products, you will need to clean the brush after shimmers so you dont end up putting them all over your face the next time you use it.
- Fashion Fair Sable Powder – The One Perfectiing Brush is great for sculpting and contouring the face if like me your face is round like a dinner plate.
Do You Need It?
The One Perfecting Brush is great for powder and liquid, not so good for cream product. You coud not have this as your only make up brush. In theory it could replace your foundation, powder, blush, highlight and contour brushes which makes the £40 price tag easier to swallow. It does apply and diffuse product well but it takes a while to get to grips with the best way to use it.
If you do your makeup on the go, or have a makeup bag at someone elses home, so you dont hav alot of space, there is definitely value in this brush. If you always do your makeup at home, however, I’d be inclined to just buy the brushes that you need.
