Perricone MD Revisited: Blue Plasma Cleansing Treatment

Dr Perricone Blue Plasma Cleansing Treatment

I have reviewed a few Perricone  MD products on my blog and my skin gets on well with this brand.   The Perricone MD Blue Plasma Cleansing Treatment has been on my radar for a while.  I waited before purchasing it as I was on an acid kick and I did not want too many exfoliating products in my bathroom on roatation.

What is it?

Blue Plasmas Cleansing Treatment is a non rinse deep cleansing treatment. Dr Perricone formulated it with with a salmon egg enzyme which has been proven to have skin resurfacing  properties which can promote  brightness and radiance.  Perricone MD claim that this is a biopecific cleanser.’ by which they mean that it targets the debris in pores and impurities on the skin  only.  It does not strip the skin.

Blue Plasmas utilises micellar technology however this is not a makeup remover. This is strictly for cleansing the skin, so I use it at night as my second cleanse or as my morning cleanse.  Normally with a micellar cleanser I would use it in the makeup removal process rather than as a skin cleanser so I tend not to leave it on the skin.  Micellar  technology is established and the level of surfactant used in products is low so they generally dont detrimentally disrupt the skin’s acid mantle / ph etc.  However, as I only remove my makeup with micellar waters, they are alwas followed by a second cleanser.

For me, this product is exactly as titled – a skin treatment.  I use it after makeup removal and cleansing, at the toner or treatment stage of my skincare routine.  It does not sting –  it has  resurfacing action but it is very gente on the skin.  It does not have smell fishy – I have used Pericone MD products before and they can smell quite fishy but this does not.  It does not really have a smell.   Dr Perricone says that you can use it to remove makeup but why would you use such an expensive product? Wen you can use an oil or a blam which gives you the sensorial feeling (massage) too. (it’s £36 by the way)

On the skin

It definitey minimised the appearance of my pores. it leave the skin not uncomfortable with a slight residue I feel like I could go out straight away. I tend to use it in the morning. I just really want my skin to be clean so I use a light cleanser before using it. Does not feel tight or taut and I live in a hard water area.  I enjoy using it. In terms of resurfacing – there was some improvement on the chin and under the eyes.  I would recommend it  but as a skin treatment rather than a skin cleaner.  I follow it with hydrating toner or go straight in with a serum. As Blue Plasma has a resurfacing action I dont follow it with an acid.

If you are happy with your current cleansing regime, you don’t need to add it.  However, if you are looking for something to add to your products that will gentle exfoliate Blue Plasma is definitely worth considering.  It is £36 which for me is a reasonable price for a gentle skin resurfacer.  If you are looking for a micellar water to remove your makeup and sunscreen – look elsewhere!
