Marc Jacobs: Daisy Eau de Toilette

Marc Jacobs Daisy

The fragrance line that started with Daisy in 2007 has now developed into a fragrance franchise in its own right with several variations on the original theme (Bloom, Blush, Delight,  Dream,  Dream Blush,  Eau So Fresh,  Garland, Hot Pink,  Pop Art,  Sunshine and Sorbet phew!)  I did not get involved with Daisy when it was first released so now that the hype has died down (although the popularity has not) it feels like a good time to review this fragrance.

The packaging of this bottle is very pretty.  The lid makes the whole thing pop, covered in plastic daisies it is very much a dressing table fragrance, which is a shame as I keep mine in the box to help preserve the longevity.  The aesthetic is pretty rather than beautiful and girly rather than feminine.  I am not suggesting that that is a good or bad thing, it is just my interpretation.  I think that the aesthetic lead to my expectation of the fragrance and on this occasion I was not wrong.  I would class this fragrance as a fruity floral.  In this fragrance the sweetness (strawberry) is dispensed of with a light hand thanks to the lemon which makes the initial spray bearable.  The dry down on this fragrance is pretty quick.  In about 20 minutes, I have hit the floral middle, the violet tempering the jasmine and gardenia with the muskiness hitting my skin after about three hours.

I like it but I don’t love it – that said, I wear it quite a lot considering how I feel about this fragrance.  This is not really a marmite fragrance as the blend is not extreme in any way which is probably why it has been so popular.  The lack of rose is a true blessing for me; the violet gives it some interest.  This fragrance is like playing your favourite singer at level two on your stereo. A nice pleasant background noise that you will find yourself absent mindedly humming along with but while you are doing other things.  Does that sound like an insult? I really don’t mean it to.  There are times where showing the world your personality or your mood through your fragrance is not what you want to do.  Where you don’t want people to comment on how you smell because you don’t want to have to explain to them that you are wearing a ‘male’ fragrance or a niche fragrance, you don’t want to share the boutique that you have found which has your perfect scent.  you just want to disappear into the norm.  Am I the only person that feels that way? I hope not! So anyway, when I am feeling that way, I reach for Daisy by Marc Jacob.

Daisy is available from The Perfume Store and other authorised stockists.  Prices start from £44.99
