This Creamy Coconut Cleanser is one of the hero products from Essential Care – a family run skincare brand from Suffolk . This British brand, have a wide range of hair face and body products including specialist products for skin conditions (eg eczema and psoriasis) and a make up range, but sadly the complexion products to not cater to women of colour.
The packaging reflects that ethos of the brand, the box is recycled on sustainably sourced card. The muted green and gold writing is not too small for me to read without my glasses and provides the ingredients list and directions on how to use the product.
The cleanser is recommended for dry and mature skins and has a light lotion texture. When applied to the skin, it has a bit of slip but if you don’t work quickly it starts to absorb on the skin which is not great for a cleanser. The smell is not at all strong and is quite herby from the clary sage and eucalyptus. The lemon does not really come through at all.
Despite having an olive oil and coconut oil base, I found that this product did not remove my make up which was disappointing. It is recommended to use it on a dry face, but I found it was more effective when I lightly spritzed my face with water first.
This might be a good option if you don’t wear make up or perhaps for teenagers and those who want to start a skincare regime, but I found that I needed to double/triple cleanse. This cleanser is gentle on the skin, but I really wanted the active ingredients to do more. I did not feel as hydrated after use as with other products and despite the companies great ethos and the product being 88% organic, I was disappointed overall.
