NoScruchie.com and the Good Afro Salon Awards is the brainchild of  Ugandan born business woman Leillah Sekalala, who after arriving in the the UK in 2004 struggled to find a salon that was consistently good at different Afro styling.

“After years of asking people on the street about where they got their hair done and experiencing a few hits but too many misses, I decided to start NoScrunchie, com, a salon listings site that incorporates reviews from women like me looking for quality salon experiences”, states Leillah, who established the UK’s first salon ratings website dedicated to Afro Hair in 2012,.

The Good Afro Salon Awards are designed  to encourage and build upon the most important stakeholder relationship that a salon has – the one that they share with their clients.

“We decided to create an awards ceremony that any salon can enter – just on the grounds of being a good Afro salon by recognising and promoting the relationship between client and salon owners/stylists – which is enchanced by the reviews the clients leave on our site”
