I generally love all iterations of purple from Illamasqua, but, I have a love / hate relationship with the Illamasqua Poke nail polish. In the bottle it is a very beautiful purple with gold, silver, blue micro shimmer that makes it look like a swirling galaxy. In the bottle – I love it. It is not the most unique shade, but it is purple and shimmery so that is a good start in my book.
On the nails however it is a different matter sadly. The consistency of Poke is quite thin so you really need three if not four coats to get full opacity. Hmmm not good. The brush is quite thin too, which means that you have to pay a lot of attention whilst you paint your nails. I have a tendency to flood the cuticle when I paint my nails and neither the brush does nor the consistency help. It is also a colour that is helped significantly by the addition of top coat to really bring out the shimmer effects
If you persevere with it Poke, is a good nail varnish, but I have other purple varnishes that provide great impact with less effort. Poke is a colour that I keep in my collection because it is pretty, but rarely wear as it a bit too much of faff to use.
