Like many, I am a huge fan of Amy Winehouse’s (RIP) music. Unlike many, I prefer Frank to Back to Black…but I regularly listen to both albums on my iPod. I’m not sure why but recently Ms Winehouse’s iconic extreme eyeliner has been influencing my weekend eye looks. I have been sporting a heavy black eyeliner as la Ms Winehouse which is perfect for those of us who wear spectacles, as it is visible, and equally beautiful without or with face furniture and it supports a beautiful statement lip colour like YSL Divin Poupre perfectly.
Using Illamasqua Sealing Gel is a great way to convert an eyeshadow into a liquid liner. Don’t be alarmed by the small box, there are actually two bottles of the sealing gel in there and they last a long time. I tend to use one drop per eye for an Amy Winehouse graphic liner look, but for a more understated flick, you can get both eyes done with one drop.
The bottles are very small but there is plenty of product. The sealing gel is actually a clear liquid which can be squeezed out of the plastic bottle drop by drop.
Mix your eyeshadow (any colour ) with a drop of the sealing gel, make a paste and apply to the eye with a small brush. Loose eyeshadows and pigments are ideal for this (Bare Minerals Onyx is a personal favourite) but it works well with pressed shadows too. My favourite brush for this is a push liner brush, but an angled brush works equally well.
I like to keep my eyes closed for about thirty seconds after application as my eyes are slightly hooded and I don’t want to get the sealing gel above my crease line. It dries quite quickly and once dry it is not sticky to the touch and it stays where you put it. The sealing gel transforms pigments and brightens shadows and you get a full days wear without it moving. If you are going for a graphic look or just want to make sure that your line stays put this is a must have.
