Talon Tales: Nubar Purples

Nubar Nail Varnish Toga Purple and Purple Glitter Rain

My self imposed one hundred day beauty spending ban started last Monday – but clearly the universe is willing me to succeed because I received a very beautifully packaged parcel from Give me the Pretty.  Give me the pretty is a brilliant online beauty store where you can find a range of great niche brands from candles to cleansers, and lash glue to nail varnish.  It means that you can add to your stash from the comfort of your sofa.  They have over fifty shades from  the range as well as the acetone free nail varnish remover, base coats, top coat and the cuticle oil from the range.

The lovely team at GiveMethePretty have indulged my love of purple by sending me two purple colours from Nubar.  Nubar is a range that I had seen online but never purchased so I was very happy to give them a try.  Nubar is a ‘free from nail range ‘ (no formaldehyde, pthalates and toluene) that was established in the year 2000 as a result of the founder having a family member that was affected by cancer.  Toga Purple is a cream purple with a small amount of lilac shimmer in it.  It is a beautiful shade, very me.  Purple Rain Glitter is a gorgeous glitter.  This is a sheer vlue/purple base with purple silver and lilac micro shimmer in it.  To get the best effect I would definitely recommend three to four coats, or wear it as a top coat over a cream colour.  With three coats you get an almost midnight effect.  Very pretty.

I found the formula for both these polishes was quite thin so the first coat went on a bit streaky.  The second provided opacity but it was the third coat that gave the effect that I wanted.  The polishes don’t take very long to dry so the application of three coats does not take much longer then with a standard nail polish.  The glitter particles Purple Rain Glitter mean that a top coat is advisable to give a smoother finish.  In term of wear, with Seche Vite top coat I got about five days, and I found that the polish shrank rather then chipped so a touch up was easy.  These colours are a great addition to my purple varnish collection and Purple Rain Glitter will definitely be on my toes on Christmas day. At fifteen millilitres per bottle, they are OPI sized polishes at two thirds of the price so they are great value.
