My latest perfume purchase is Rosa Noir from MOR. I don’t like rose fragrances – you know this already but in trying to develop my nose so I try to review a rose fragrance regularly. As my sister loves rose fragrances, I buy them in the knowledge that I will pass them on to her. #iamagreatsister However I really dont think Rosa Noir is going to be up her alley.
Packaging
The red and burgandy box are adorned with a bouquet of roses. The bottle itself is unusal in that it is opaque burgandy and very boxy in shape. Normally rose scented bottles have a more ‘feminine light’ look so this is an interesting departure from other brands. The burgandy and gold combination speaks to ‘opulance’ but in truth this aesthetic does not speak to me.
Notes and longevity
The notes in the fragrance are fresia, ivy leaves, petitigrain, carnation, rose, lily of the valley, sandalwood, tonka bean and musk. Sadly, I dont get any ‘green’ or musk when I smell this on the skin. It is the strangest thing.
The longevity is pretty good, five to six solid hours. It is quite linear on me and does not really develop into anything else, what you get at the first spritz is how the product pretty much stays. It just fades on the skin. For me this is not rose noir, it is more tinned berries
On the skin
Intersetingly, Rosa Noir, is not a very rosey scent. When spritzed, it takes quite a long time for the alchol to dissipate. When it does I am hit with a berry note that stays with me for hours. On me it is more gourmand than floral. It is not as fruity sweet as a L’Occitane fragrance but for me, this is a sixteen year olds first venture into a night time dancing and or drinking. You know, when they think that they are grown and and wearing asexy fragrance but actually theyare just wearing a heavier sweet perfume. Rosa Noir takes me straight back to that awkward ‘think I’m grown’ phase and to be honest that is a phase I would like to forget.
On him
On the Mister, this is a completely different kettle of fish. His natural scent makes the fragrance more less sweet and more floral. I wish it smelt on me like it does no him because it is much better. Body chemistry really is an amazing thing.
The Rosa Noir fragrance costs £40 which is really affordable if it is a scent you like. It is also available as a soap, body lotion and body wash so you can layer it to your hearts content. I am not a fan of rose fragrances, but that is not the reason that I dont like Rosa Noir. I dont like it becaue it is a simple berry scent (on me) and I want more from a fragrance.
