Keep Cup is an Australian brand which makes the first barista size refillable cup. Rather than throwing away your coffee cup every day the idea is that you have a Keep cup. A cup that you keep for your daily coffee. I don’t drink coffe but I am a fan of a coffee shop. Currently I work near to a lovely independent coffee shop. There are homemade cakes, artesan crisps, delicious paninis and a wide, but not too extensive range of hot drinks. As I said, I don’t drink coffee but I consider myself to be a bit of a hot chocolate connosieur and this coffee shop does a good hot chocolate. Not too sweet. Hot not luke warm and available with a variety of plant and nut milks. This coffee shop also sells Keep Cups.
Colours
Keep cup is available in a wide variety of clours. I purchased the ‘blueberry’ option with is consists of a purple cup, lavender band, navy lid and light blue button which you use to open or close the hole you drink from. Blueberry is a set combination of colours. It is possible to customise your colours… but with the custom option it is not possible to get an all purple cup.
In Use
Keep Cup describe their cups as thermal. They are not. If you put a hot drink in them the cup is hot. Equally if you put a cold drink or frozen smoothie in them, the cup is cold and covered in condensation within five minutes. If like me you drink your hot chocolate ‘extra hot’ you will find that you cant hold the cup for very long.
Do You Need a Keep Cup
If you are a regular coffee drinker, it makes sense to have a reuseable takeaway cup. The sustainability and economic reasons are clear. However, the fact that the keep cup is not thermal is a problem for me. Depending on the distance between the coffee shop and your office, train station , bus stop or home, you may have to carry the cup for four or five mntues. A cup that is not thermal with a hot drink in it is a health hazard. My advice would be find a thermal cup. It may not be as attractive, but it will save your fingers.
