My TKMaxx Stila Magnificent Metals Haul and Swatches

Stila Magnificent Metals

Stila Magnificent Metals

My office is within three minutes of a sizeable TKMaxx.  I often browse through the skincare / make up department.  To be honest, much of the time this department looks like a jumble sale but I have picked up the odd bargain here or there.  Last week however I hit the jackpot.  In my lunchtime, I cut through TKMaxx to get into the shopping centre and found that the latest beauty delivery had just arrived.  The sales assistant was putting out the stock and my eye was drawn to the brown packaging of Stila.  Stila! So I took a step closer expecting it to be beige complexion products and as expected there were a fair few of those but what really caught my eye were the Stila Magnificent Metals

This is a product that had been on my wish list for months.  Glitter and sparkle – hello!. Right up my street.  The Recommended Retail Price for Stila Magnificent Metals is is £32.99.  The TKMaxx was £19.  In my local TKMaxx however the price was 3.99,  which means that I could get five for the price of one, which is what I did.

These colours in the swatches are stunning.  On the lids I found that they were a bit more difficult to work with:-

  1. a)You need a mixing medium of some description. It does not have to be the one provided, it can be the Illamsqua or the Mehron but you need something
  2. b)You need to treat this like a pressed pigment rather than an eyeshadow.
  3. c)Choose your brush with care

The texture of these remind me of the Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill, in that they don’t apply the way that they look.  But it took me a while to come to that realisation.  When I did, it helped me to figure out which brush was best.  I don’t have huge eyes so a small (very small) pencil or flat top eye brush is perfect.  You are wasting your time with a buffing brush or a flat top shader brush.  You can use your fingers but only if your eyes are the size of Bambi’s.  If you have smaller eyes, a small brush is your friend.

The smaller pencil or buffing brush means that you can get the effect of the Stila Magnificient Metals swatch on your eyes but you need to rub / blend the product into the skin.  Using the mixing medium is perfect fi you want to create a liner look or do quite a defined look.  These are not my favourite texture of eyeshadow but they are pretty amazing.

When you are buying cosmetics from TKMaxx, you need to take understand that the product may not be in the perfect condition. I found that one of my eye shadows did not have the tray.  Also the colour ways available in TKMaxx are not necessarily to your taste. I love glitter but this selection is really four shades of gold/champagne.  Not really my style, but fortunately I know people (my sister) for whom it is their style).  Notwithstanding all of the above, this is a great price.  If you are a make-up addict, you can’t go wrong.  If you have had a fantastic TKMaxx make up haul – let me know in the comments below.
