Little Ondine is a nail brand that has been on my radar for a couple of years. The unique selling point of the brand is that you can remove the varnish without the use of acetone or damaging the nails. You literally peel it off or remove with hot water. Gimmicky, but not enough to draw me in. The other and for me more interesting thing about this brand is that the varnishes are made from only three ingredients water, resin and pigment.
Nail varnish is usually made from a wide range of ingredients, some are considered to be toxic (eg formaldehyde). Nail varnish formulas are complex. It has to be liquid enough to apply easily to the nails. It also needs a film former to make is stay on the nails. Nail varnish needs to exhibit some plastic qualities be self levelling. Then there are all the additional elements that consumers expect like they have to be long lasting and high shine. The fact that this product is made from only three ingredients is amazing. However, the peel off element still made is seem a bit … well… gimmicky.
Recently I was introduced to the Little Ondine glitter varnishes and this is where I think the brand has got it completely right. Glitter on nails is soooooo pretty but it can be a right pain in the soft bits to remove. I have a removable glitter polish that does not impact the nails at all is genius. You can apply directly onto your nails or over nail polish and do all sort of effects, in the knowledge that removal is quick and easy.
The glitter particles do settle in the bottle so you will need to roll or shake the bottle prior to use. However, the dry time is pretty quick and the texture of the nail is slightly rough as with many glitter polishes. Peel off able glitter polish is great if like me you have a boss from the middle ages who thinks that glitter on the nails is worthy of a derogatory comment. You can sparkle all night and remove with ease the next day. If you are going to step into the brand I would definitely start with the glitters.
