Philip Kingsley Moisture Extreme Shampoo and Conditioner

Phillip Kingsley Moisture Extreme

Phillip Kingsley Moisture Extreme Shampoo and ConditionerDespite what you may have heard about people who have locs, we do wash our hair, and regularly.  Phillip Kingsley is a world reknowned trichologist who has several products in his range that are designed for Afro Caribbean hair. textures.  In the Phillip Kingsley range, products which are ultra hydrating and moisturising.  I’ve been using the Moisture Extreme Shampoo and Conditioner which are designed for my hair type for the past couple of months.

Phillip Kingsley Moisture Extreme Shampoo

Moisture Extreme Shampoo

The moisture extreme shampoo is a clear gel that does not really have a smell.  It does contain sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) however, so for that reason I use it monthly ratther than weekly and more as a clarifying shampoo.  Normally trichologists don’t recomnmend products that contain ingredients that are proven to be irritating. When it is lathered on the hair, it is not a  super foaming shampoo which I like, you have to add quite a bit of water if bubbles are what you are after, but it is definitely cleaning the hair with some massage.   Despite the SLS this is not the most drying shampoo I have used.  My hair was not left crispy which is a good thing.  It is not the most moisurising shampoo that I have ever used but it did not leave my hair dry and crispy.  I would use it again but only as my first shampoo and then follow it with a more moisturising forumla as I find SLS can be irritating to my scalp.  My favourite way to use this shampoo is after a hot oil treatment.  It cleans the oil from the hair and scalp without stripping the benefits you gained from the treatment

The conditioner shares a similar non-scent as the shampoo.  The texture is a white cream gel. I like that it does not leave a thick residue on the hair.  It rinses off easily and adds a noticeable  level of hydration without the heaviness.  In terms of ingredients, it has panthonol (hydration), avocado (nourishment) but it does have silicones and parabens if you are concerned about those ingredients (I’m not).

Post Wash

I did find that this combination of products left my hair soft and moisturised longer than other shampoo ranges that I have tried.  The range is very unisex from the packaging to the smell so it is definitley a product that I could share with the Mr (except he is bald, bless him).  It is more expensive that brands that you will find in the supermarket or your local PAKS but by not means the most expensive hair care range I’ve come across.

Final thoughts

If you prioritise ‘green beauty’ the Phillip Kingsley range is not for you.  If you have issues with your hair and scalp and are looking for a trichologist brand, the Phillip Kinglsley range is one of the best known on the market. Would I recommend it?  Well it depends. If you find that your hair is ‘normal’ and reacts well to a cheaper brand, probably not.  If you have found that shampoos and conditioners are just not doing enough for your hair, this brand is definitely worth a try.
