Burts Bees Lip Shine Launch and Giveaway (Closed)

Burts Bees Giveaway Prize

Burts Bees are a well established (thirty years old) skincare company that have been utilising honey and beeswax throughout their  history.  As the company has grown, the bees wax lip balm which was one of their first product, has developed into a range of lip products which now included lip colours.  I took a few photos as yesterdays launch event.

Burts Bees (12) Burts Bees (9) Burts Bees (8)

In the UK the Lip Shimmers and Tinted Lip Balms are currently available but come April, lip glosses and lip shines will be added to the range.  All of the colours work individually and collectively so it was lovely to have a chance to play with both the shimmers and balms as well as the glosses and shines yesterday.

The make up artist who has been working with Burts Bees on the development of this range is Katey Denno.  She is absolutely lovely and very passionate about ethical and sustainable beauty as well as being a very talented MUA.  We had a good old natter yesterday about our love of colour and she gave me lots of tips about how to layer these colours.

Burts Bees Katey DennoAs I was not familiar with any of the lip products prior to yesterday I am going to do a quick review of all four of the ranges that I saw yesterday.

Burts Bees Lip Tint Prize

Tinted Lip Balm (currently available £5.99  4.25 grams)

The tinted lip balms are housed in a double cardboard tube.  Katey’s Top Tip – use the outer packaging for storing hair clips and grips and other nick nacks.  Once you have opened it up, you find the balm housed in a standard chapstick type tube.  The wheel at the bottom raises the bullet.    Katey chose Red Dhalia for me – a deep red/brown shade and one of the darkest of the nine shades that are available.  An initial swipe on my lips did not deposit any colour but  following Katey’s Top Tip – the more layers you add the more the colour intensifies.  The whole Burts Bees range is nasties free and the lip tint is a coconut oil, vegetable oil and beeswax base.   If you put your nose to the bullet it does have a slightly sweet scent but on the lips it is not discernible.

Burts Bees Lip Shimmer Prize

Lip Shimmer (currently available £5.99    2.6 grams)

Approximately half the size of the tinted lip balm, the lip shimmers are much more pigmented and the colour is discernible on my pigmented  lips.  Another chapstick -esque To be honest, I dont really see a shimmer in the glitter sense of the word, I would describe it more as moisturising finish as you would find with a moisturising lipstick.  As with the balm, the more swipes across the lips, the more colour is deposited.  These have a shea butter base so the texture is slightly tighter then that of the lip balm.  These also have peppermint oil in them so they have a tingle.  I have to say it is a tingle rather then a sting as some products but if you find peppermint oil irritating this product is not for you.  I got to swatch four of the eleven available shades. Caramel, which is quite gold on my skin, Rhubarb which has a pinky red tone, Fig, which has a deeper browner tone and plum which Plum which has the deepest brown/purple tone. Katey’s Top Tip – these colours can be worn over the tinted lip balm, by itself or under the new lipgloss and or lipshine.

Burts Bees Lip Glosses Prize

NEW Lip Glosses (available from April  £8.99  6 grams)

My favourite item from the lip colour range is the lip glosses.  They are the most pigmented product of the range and have a pearlescence which means that they shimmer but don’t leave glitter particles on the lips.  It has my favourite doe foot applicator and you will find that the wand is not overloaded so you can build up the application.  Katey’s Top Tip – the glosses can be mixed to further customise your shade.  Mixing Starry Night and Summer Twilight creates a gorgeous deep berry shade.  The texture is super smooth and hydrating and the lids have a cute honeycomb embossed pattern.

Burts Bees Lip Shine Prize

NEW Lip Shines (available from April  £6.99    14g)

This is a pretty hefty amount of lip gloss.  It is the shiniest finish of all the products.  It is not sticky or gloopy as some high shine textures can be.  It does not have the mineral oil or dimethicones that other high shine products use.  It has a castor oil base, with shea and coco butters, apricot kernel wax and sunflower goodness.  I really like the texture of this product and as you know I am not a huge gloss fan. Katey’s Top Tip to slightly matify the shine tap as your lips gently.

This is a lovely range of colours and Katey Denno will be working with the brand on future product development.  I have already put in a request for lipliners, lip colour with a higher level of pigment and some matte textures so watch this space!  Thanks to the generous Flourescent PR team I have four sets of Burts Bees Lip Colours to give away.  Each of the colours are interchangeable and layer with each other. I will be picking one Lip Gloss, Lip Shine, Lip Shimmer and Lip Tint at random to send to four lucky winners from the selection below.
